| .Sports Enhancement Group Exercise What is this class? A group fitness class centered around improving your performance, whether your sport is tennis, soccer, golf, or just keeping up with the grandchildren. It emphasizes functional movement patterns designed to help you perform better physically. It will improve your flexibility, agility, balance, anaerobic power, aerobic capacity, speed, and quickness. It also burns a lot of calories and the interval format keeps your metabolism jacked up for hours after the class. What kind of exercises are involved? The first 10 to 15 minutes involves warming up with some dynamic mobility drills. The next 30 minutes of the class involves high intensity interval training with the effort intervals consisting of plyometrics, agility, or quickness drills, and the recovery intervals consisting of lower intensity activities such as stepping over hurdles and other dynamic mobility drills. Finally, the last 10-15 minutes of class is lower intensity qigong and yoga style exercises for improving flexibility. Is it for everyone? If you have the physical capacity to step over a 14 inch hurdle without falling, the leg strength to stand up from a seated position without using your hands, and the endurance to walk briskly for 1 hour without feeling fatigued, you can probably handle the class. Each exercise has lower intensity options available so that each participant can exercise at his/her own fitness level. Of course if you have any health issues, check with your physician before attempting this class. |
